THE PSYCHEDELIC FUZZ - "The Psychedelic Fuzz" - (2006)

The Fuzz...thoroughly confused en My Photos de

Artist - THE PSYCHEDELIC FUZZ
Album - "The Psychedelic Fuzz"
Label - Nitsuj/Asscore
Year - 2006

This was my friend Erica's band they were really quite good. I've never been the biggest fan of that 60's psychedelic stuff but these guy's did it really well. I recorded their album and we did everything live in one or two takes except for the vocals which we did in another few sessions. They actually do a cover of a GREATFUL DEAD song and made me like it. That's a feat. Check it out.

DARKTHRONE - "Cromlech" Demo (1989)

Artist - DARKTHRONE
Album - "Cromlech" Demo
Label - N/A
Year - 1989

It has forever been a crux on the shoulders of DARKTHRONE that they started out as a Death Metal act before going on to be one of the most famous bands in Black Metal. But, I think there's more to the story than that. While this demo has similarities to DECEASED and CARCASS, you need to remember that it was recorded in 1989. And, for what it's worth, there are a number of key elements which connect this music with what would soon become the first wave of True Norweigan Black Metal. There is a little bit of slow drone moments on the bass and drums and the guitars are played in that 32nd-note tremolo style that we've all come to know and love from the modern-day black masters. Considering how different each DARKTHRONE sounds from the last, I really doubt they care about people not respecting their evolving tastes. Also, for being ripped from a tape, this demo sounds surprisingly good and is actually a lot of fun. Give it a spin.

COLORFINGER - "Deep in the Heart of the Beast of the Sun" (1990)

Artist - COLORFINGER
Album - "Deep in the Heart of the Beast of the Sun"
Label - Shindig Records
Year - 1990

This is a rarity if I've ever heard one. Before Art Alexakis formed EVERCLEAR, he formed this not-completely-dissimilar-sounding band. Believe it or not, these recordings are less noisy and aggressive than the earliest of EVERCLEAR. The songs are really very good (a couple of them actually became EVERCLEAR tunes). But I feel like COLORFINGER actually stands up on it's own. With a combination of self-deprecating lyrics and a twangy, thumpin', "cowpunk" music styling, they really display a well-practiced and serious group that was probably a blast to see live. Even back then, Alexakis really knew how to orchestrate and produce a song to make it sparkle. Not many people have this record. And that is a shame, my friend.

SEPTIC BROILER - "Enfeebled Earth" (Pre-Dark Tranquility) (1989)

Artist - SEPTIC BROILER
Album - "Enfeebled Earth"
Label - N/A
Year- 1989

What a great recording! You've got a group of guys who would soon go on to form the respective IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST of the modern era as little kids... I'm referring to Martin Henriksson, Anders Jivarp, Niklas Sundin, Mikael Stanne and Anders Friden who have been entertaining audiences worldwide for the past twenty years as IN FLAMES and DARK TRANQUILITY... Look at that picture, man. They look like they're like, fuckin' 12 years old!!! That's awesome. You can really hear the things that these kids we're experimenting with at the time... punk rock, heavy metal, thrash, death metal, rock n' roll, surf... You name it. Also, this demo/EP came out before the first CEREMONIAL OATH album (which Friden participated in for a while)... So, while it's a little rough with the funny-sounding, weakly distorted power amps, this may be the first real example of Gothenberg Style Melodic Death Metal... It's cool.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - "Prodigal Son at Winterland" 25th Anniversary Remaster ( Orig.1978)

Artist: BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Album: "Prodigal Son at Winterland" 25th Anniversary Remaster
Label : Prodigal Son
Year: 1978

Here you've got really one of the best sounding and longest  BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN  concerts captured and put to the presses by fans. You may have the luck of finding this at local record shops. But, in general, this is something passed by hand. 3 discs of Bruce's Winter magic complete with radio comentary really bring you back to that night in 78' after the release of his seminal "Darkness on the Edge of Town" album. You'll find the band playing a nice grouping of rock n' roll covers and, also, some anticipatory songs from "The River" as well as the "Santa Story" and "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" sessions whose interplay between Bruce and the Big Man (r.i.p.) have become legend in the world of holiday radio bringing joy to millions as this whole album does for me.

BUREAUCRATS - "Complete Discography" (1999)

Artist: Bureaucrats
Album: Complete Discography
Label: N/A
Year: 1999

It's insane how incredible this band was. BUREAUCRATS were an English punk rock band from the 80's which only had a mere 12 songs recorded ( three of which were live recordings). I originally had the 7" with the song "Feel the Pain" which is, hands down, one of the greatest and catchiest songs ever written. And I think "Grown Up Age" is excellent as well. They're ALL excellent. You will totally enjoy this collection. Regardless of being a grouping, the order of the songs actually works really well. It's almost like the LP that never was and now can be!!!!!

BAD RELIGION - "Into the Unknown" (1983)

Artist: BAD RELIGION
Album: "Into the Unknown"
Label: Epitaph
 Year : 1983

Now rather well known, as it were, BAD RELIGION's red-headed stepchild of a second album is still out of print after almost 30 years. To be honest, I actually like this album. Not for what it's not but, rather, for what it is. It's possible to make a connection between "Into the Unknown" and the band's first album with the piano tracks and rock and roll mid tempo stuff which was sort of present on their first. But this is not a punk rock album. Think of "Signals" era RUSH along with BOSTON and DEVO. That should give you a good idea. There's lots of organ and acoustic guitar and little epic songs to delight the oldheads and wierdos. I don't know what these guys were thinking that year because they've never sounded anything like this either beforehand or for the past 30 years. Maybe they figured that punk was dead just like every other band who broke up or changed formats in 83-84. If anything, it's a pretty interesting record.

BURLINGTON HATE FACTORY - "Grindpop" (2012)

Artist: BURLINGTON HATE FACTORY
Album: "Grindpop"
Year: 2012
Label: Nitsuj/Asscore

Here is an album I put out this year. I had this epiphany when I was in Japan hearing all the crazy music that they have to offer. I realized the reason I liked extreme music was a lot about aesthetic. And I realized that that's the same reason that people listen to pop music. I realized that that aesthetic was the main reason why early NES and Genesis video games were so great. Before people started hiring fucking Lars Von Trier to direct their new SOTA video game, these games were more fun. So I tried to combine pop, grindcore and 8-bit into what I call "Grindpop". I expect to make many more Burlington Hate Factory albums because they're so fun and easy to do. Also, I got to do a Melt Banana cover which is something most people wouldn't likely find the opportunity to do. I hope you like it. In any case, IT'S FREE!!!!!!

ELECTRO HIPPIES - "Play Fast or Die" 12" (1989)

Artist: ELECTRO HIPPIES
Album: "Play Fast or Die" 12"
Year: 1989
Label: Necrosis

This is a really great short crustpunk/thrashcore album and it features Jeff Walker from Carcass on guitar and vocals. The shortness is not only because of the speed( as suggested by the title) but also because of the fact that these tracks originally made up half of a split LP with Generic. enjoy!
